Steve Sells, 54, of Wichita Falls passed away Friday, January 11, 2013.
Mr. Sells was born on December 4, 1958, in Rawlins, Wyoming, to the late Bill Hardy Sells and Hazel Viola (Maner) Sells and was of American Indian (Cherokee) heritage. He married Deborah Heidemann on February 14, 1979, in Cushing, Okla. They were members and attended Texoma Cowboy Church in Wichita Falls.
Steve served in the Army National Guard in Oklahoma as a young man. He later became active in the Boy Scouts of America as was currently serving as Camp Ranger at Camp Perkins since 1998. His awards and accomplishments with the BSA were many along with several other endeavors. He achieved a Master Mason’s Degree in April, 2009 and was a member of Wichita Falls Lodge #635 where he received the Daniel Carter Beard Award for his contribution to Scouting. He received the Scout Masters Key in August, 1999.He completed training in Wood Badge SR 427, Contender in April 2002, Wood Badge SR 995, Quarter Master in 2009, Wood Badge SR 587, 2012, Troop Guide-Antelope Patrol, 2012. Steve completed Kodiak Venture training in January, 2006, received the Silver Beaver Award in January 2010, the Glen Scout Award in 2009, Founders Award in January, 2010, a Certificate of Appreciation by the Boy Scout Rendezvous, January, 2011. He placed Second in the Knot and Lash Event at Chisholm Trail in the 2004 Winter Rendezvous. He received the Certificate of Appreciation, School Night, 2012. He was Event Chairman of the 2005 Winter Rendezvous and was Instructor for Hunting Safety and was Director of Rendezvous for many years. He was and OA advisor training in 2009 and received his vigil in January 2001. He completed Sea Base training in the Florida Keys in January, 2006 and Spring, 2003 Camoree., SCUBA certified with BSA-NOAC, was a Climbing Director, Extreme High Adventures, 2006 and served as Camp Ranger at Sid Richardson Camp in 2012. Steve served at the Water Stations in the “Hotter than Hell 100” and a member of Hands to Hands.
Survivors are his wife, Debbie Sells of Wichita Falls; children, Stephen A. Sells of Wichita Falls, and Cryshalynn Sells of Belton, Texas; four beautiful grandchildren, Preslee and Kellyn Sells and Kody and Matalyie Sells; sister, Linda Hensley of Hominy, Okla.; and brother, Billy Wayne Sells; nephews, Joe Hensley, Justin Hensley and Michael Brown; nieces, Seandra Brown and LeAnne Bunetta.
